The dissappearance of Daniel Morecombe happened as a result of a combination of things. 1 The bus he was waiting for broke down. 2 The replacement bus failed to stop for him because it was late. (Normally a poor reason to leave the passenger standing.) As a former bus driver myself it is no excuse to leave a passenger stranded at a bus stop (but this is not an official bus stop) just because you are late. The next bus that came noted that he had gone from the bus stop. 3 The wikipedia article that I have quoted states that he was waiting at an "UNOFFICIAL" bus stop. In essence he was not waiting at an official bus stop so the bus driver did not have a legally binding obligation to stop to pick him up. Bus stops are not just put anywhere, they have to be located where approaching traffic from behind can get a good view if anyone or any bus is there so they can have plenty of time to react if something unexpected happens. They also have to be well signposted.
