I know she's a a little older than most of the children we've discussed, but her case is another one that has frustrated me ever since I first learned of her disappearance. I don't know how much anyone has followed this case, but this link gives some information on it if you are interested: www.amw.com/missing_persons/case.cfm?id=32411
The case was re-opened when the person who was last seen with her (clearly a jerk) basically confessed on camera to someone undercover that he dumped her body in the ocean (despite not knowing for sure if she was actually dead or not) with a friend of his. He later stated that he was joking around (who jokes about that, really?) and appears to be getting away with it....it angers me so much. Not only is it unlikely they will ever find this girl and bring her back to her poor family, but it also appears that justice will never be served. What a terrible story.
Her 22nd birthday is in 4 days.

What makes me crazy about this is that a local girl was murdered in Costa Rica...and her body was found with a bunch of stab wounds...and none of you even know who she is...it was the same sort of trip...she was an attractive girl as well...why did Natalie get all the attention...where is Shannon Martins media attention...when will she get justice...she was only raped and murdered...not an overdose like Natalie.
I think maybe Natalie got more attention because she is still missing and there is a lot more mystery surrounding the situation (which the media loves), but I understand where you are coming from. I will admit that I do not recall hearing anything about that story until you posted the link.

Or it could be that she is blonde...it seems to make a big difference.

Yeah, I agree that the media tends to ignore tragedy when it affect people of minority. I mean, everybody knows about what happened to Kelsey Briggs...but what about Erica Green? That case was even more horrifying, and yet everybody has forgot, it seems.
To be fair, Kelsey Brigg's case is more recent, but I saw the original air of the Cold Case episode in which the announce that the head of an unknown toddler had been found and it wasnt until i did my own research years later that I fould out that they knew who she was.

Shannon wasnt a minority as far as I know...but I do notice how stories like Jacklyn Dowallaby had such a parallel story to JonBenet's...but the man on the street doesnt know about her and what that family went through...and of course Judith compared to Heather's story was a horrific difference...but Heather is remembered more.
